My son's iron count at times gets very low. He has gone on and off digestive enzymes. Twice when he has been off the enzymes his iron count went lower - but I am not sure if it is just a coincidence. I don't think people are supposed to stay on digestive enzymes for the long term.  ( I think because that encourages the body to stop making its own enzymes.) Wondering if anyone understands if digestive enzymes ( mostly lipase) could play a role in helping iron absorption? And if there is truly a concern about being on them long term?

Thank you.
