I have been on Belladonna/Opium suppositories for over 4 years. Its the only thing that helped with painful spasm's and lose of control. Dr said it was due to so many cases of pouchitus over the past 10 or more years had left my pouch very weak. That was causing the horrible pain due to spasm's and then loose control. Well I had to stop working due to the strong reaction to medicine and I have worked since I was 15. But at that point it was the only thing that helped and I could not live that way any longer. Well I heard last Nov. that I was going on Medicare and found out of course they would not cover any of it and its over 1500.00 a month. My doctor said the only thing else to try was valium supp. and up to 8 lomotil a day. I tried in Jan because Medicare would cover it even though it is 2000.00 a month. I gave it till march and was leaking 95% of my day and could not walk long at all due to butt pain for going over 20 times while taking this medication. No I just heard I am in the donut hole 2000.00 adds up fast and now they say I have to pay about 5000.00 out of pocket to get in the castastrophy section.

I sent one appeal it was denied I sent second appeal with letters from each of my doctors saying it all and what I am going through. I called after 2 weeks and was told it was denied again. Have not gotten paper work from latest denial yet but told on phone.

My doctors were furies they never got a denial after writing that is the only thing that helped and that I was told by GI doctor there was nothing else he can give me. I am still dumb from the denial.

Well my question is this is there anyone that is on the Belladonna/Opium supp. I take one every twelve hours and have to lay on left side for one hour after I take it.

I cant believe they are the only 2 medications that could help me. I'm on SS Disability and what I get a month does not even pay for one month. I need some other ideas of medications that I might try that they will cover. Medicare has been so awful I don't know what I am going to do. Any advice or suggestions would be great.

Thank You Frances

Ok I have question I am looking for new drug to take instead of Belladonna/Opium sup? My insurance will not pay for it. Is anyone taking Bentyl or Humira? My GI from Cleveland clinic said its either Valium suppositories with about 8 lomotil a day or Belladonna/Opium suppositories. Valium is 2000.00 a month and Belladonna/Opium is 1500.00 a month and my insurance wont cover it but they will pay for Valium for 2000.00 a month and now in donut hole and have to pay 5000.00 out of pocket to get to next stage I think they call it catastrophe part. I am on Medicare and I don't have 5000.00 to even get out of donut hole. So I am doing research on other drugs that people take that will not cost so much.

Thanks for your time

Frances

Hi Laura, I cant believe that all you pay. I take 10mg valium suppositories and will definitely call around about that. Do you take Lamotil or Imodium daily? I am supposed to take up to 8 a day if I need to. How long have you been taking it? The B&O suppositories help a lot more but have been denied twice and now I have my great senator looking into it for me. Thanks so much for the info. I will let you know how I do.

Frances, please let me know if your great senator is able to help with the B&O suppositories. That would be wonderful for you and may possibly be something I may consider since I was denied by insurance as well. Since the B&O suppositories have not been available to me, my dr prescribed valium suppositories to help with the pain & discomfort until surgery, which is still several months away. This is my first month on the valium suppositories and they help somewhat,  but not enough to delay surgery in hopes of being approved for B&O.

No, I can't take lomotil or imodium due to complications from my particular type & location of pouch prolapse.

Hope your senator is able to help!

Laura
