I find that Gatorade and Powerade do me more harm than good for me due to the amount of sugar in them. They make me go more.

On the crohnsforum another guy talked about making his own sports drink, for which there are recipes online.

"Being without a colon as well, I do get dehydrated. One thing I've done is add more salt and potassium to my diet. One good way I do this is to add Morton's Lite Salt to my juice, ice tea, lemonade, etc. I'll even make my own sports drink- there are recipes on line for homemade gatorade or homemade sports drink, and they are all easy to make. We don't absorb salt or potassium as well without a colon and I find I do feel better adding it back in."

Good luck.
Homemade lemonaide and peanuts work well for me...gives me the potassium, sodium, glucose (or not depending if I use real sugar or not) and tons of minerals with the lemon, mint leaves etc...I drink it all day long and it is very refreshing...sometimes I squeeze a tangerine into it as well...tomato juice helps a lot too expecially if you blend it with herbs for the extra minerals (celery salt helps too)...

get rid of sugar things and fake sugar things. Gatoraide and G2 for me just increase dehydration.

Try only pedialyte since you already have been using it intermittenlty.. and no other drinks throughout the day. not even plain water. sip all throughout the day. no chugging. try not to drink with meals.

also you can try Ceralyte - but I found it tastes awful. or a true WHO (world health organization) solution. They are closest to what our bodies need to replace. I get packets from Jianas brothers and mix one packet with one thing of crystal lite in a one liter bottle. This is by far the cheapest alternative I have found. My docs have me drinking about 2.5liters a day.
sara1986: Well all I can say is... I had a jpouch done in 2001 and for the last many years I've dealt with dehydration and malabsorbtion. My concerns and thoughts are with you as the research continues. Good old water is the best. But I have more trouble with dehydration when I'm in an infection cycle. So keep an eye on that. I do pretty good during my "good" peroid watching fluid intake. Watch the muscle cramps and other things that you will become acquainted with. Best of luck.
