Hi all,

First I want to thank everyone on this site. I have gotten invaluable information.

I had takedown 4 weeks ago and I have to say I think I am doing great. I went back to work after 2 weeks and did fine. My boss insisted I take a nap in his office everyday when he went out to lunch. How great is he?! The issues I have is the butt burn, which I am trying to manage with Calmoseptine, zinc oxide, ilex, bidet, and hydrocortisone. I wear a pad everyday to protect my underwear from the ointments and just in case I get a leak. How long will this last?

Also, when I left the hospital I was on augmentim twice a day. I stopped it after a week and then I started to get a fever and some cramps. My doc put me back on and I felt better after one dose. I also had to go for an office visit to be dilated. I was unable to empty and my doctor had me come in right away. After he dilated me with his pinky I immediately felt better. I asked him about self dilation and he said he has zero of his patients do that. What if I was away and this happened? Or what if I couldn't get in touch with him or he was away? There is no way I would be able to function without getting dilated.
I was feeling great again so I started taking the augmentim only once a day. I have been having cramping again. Do I need to take the antibiotic forever? Do you think it has anything to do with that? Or just a coincidence?

Thanks for all your comments.

My surgeon allows self dilation if necessary. You can get Heger dilators, if you know the right size. My surgeon said ONLY to pull towards your back; forward can cause issues. I've had to do it a few times, I use a gloved tapered candle (sounds weird, I know, but it's cheap and works... Just make sure it's gloved.). You can use your own gloved finger, too.

However. I wouldn't go against your surgeons wishes, and would clarify what to do in those emergency situations.
