Hi, I have been dealing with constipation for over a month now, as stated in a previous post I had  an abdominal x ray that led to a CT scan that stated my j pouch was full which led to a flex sigmoidoscopy on Monday. It showed no stricture or anything wrong with the anastomosis. I am now in the middle of a sitz marker study. I am in tears constantly because I dont know what is wrong. The surgeon mentioned it could be pelvic floor or sphincter muscle problems. I am scared to death and completely miserable. I swallowed capsule on monday and had x ray today. It showed I still have 12 of the 24 markers and that they did make it to the surgical area. Can somebody please help!!

Shoflo, remember to breathe. This will be fine.

Are you able to produce any output at all while you are blocked up? If so, what is the consistency? (Rocks/solid/pudding/liquid)?

A sitz marker study is usually to assess colonic motility, which is tricky without a colon. I guess it can look at small intestinal motility, too, but that isn’t a very likely explanation for a pouch full of stool. Pelvic floor dysfunction could do this, particularly if your sphincter tightens when you need it to relax. Have they done anal manometry, to measure how tight the sphincter is?

Did your pouch work fine before this started? For how long?

No output at all without a enema or colonoscopy prep. This suddenly started a month and about 2 weeks ago out of nowhere. I had been completely fine having 2-3 pudding bowel movements a day. I think the Manometry is next on the list after sitz study is complete on Friday. I can’t put into words the mystery of not going to the bathroom all I can do is cry. Then to not know why or a solution or if it is a solution is about to take it’s toll on me emotionally

I got once constipated post takedown when I consulted my surgeon to add imodium daily to restrict bms. For the first day it was good but the next day I was badly constipated. Nothing moved out and the pain was killing. I pushed so hard that a little blood came along with a little stool. What I found from that incident is I cant take more than 1 imodium a day. I have to drink plenty of fluids regularly even if it means having a little loose output. Also if I ever feel like being constipated I drink 1 full glass of milk with pysllium husk.

Are you on a low fiber diet ? Cause that may be one of the reasons your gut isnt moving properly. Also many people get on a low fiber diet without knowing by restricting all complex carbs in their diet.

@shoflo Hi - this thread is over 5 years old, so I don't know if you are still on the site, but hopefully you still receive forum notifications.  May I ask if you had the manometry test, and also ask if your problem with constipation resolved and if so, how? I have been struggling with constipation for months and just today received a message that my G/I doc will be referring me for a manometry test.
I hope you are doing well!
