I have a j pouch and have had it for almost a year. This past week I have been queefing a lot, I have never queefed before (was so shocked when it happened as I had no idea what it was haha). Last night it occured for about an hour whilst I was lying in bed. I have no other symptoms. Could this be an issue?

There may be cause for concern here. A rectal-vaginal fistula could let bowel gas (flatus) pass our through your vaginal opening. It could also lead to a nasty case of vaginits (infection of vaginal canal). You want to get imaging and a pelvic exam done asap.

That sounds scary!!! That totally makes sense though, I never heard of that fistula thing until this year; I think that is very common in Crohns Disease people too.

I definitely have a fistula of that nature and it began the same way. After some time, I began to notice small amounts of contents of the j-pouch leaking through as well. It’s dreadful! I’ve been dealing with this for around a year or more.  I’m scared to pursue surgery for it though. I’m not sure what to do.😟 I feel for you.

I have a vaginal fistula (tiny pin hole) with all the symptoms described. Had surgery to plug the hole by my surgeon it helped a little then failed. It is very hard to find. Its been 8 years comes and goes and is only noticeable when my stool is watery. I try and keep things firmed up with fiber. I have learned to live with it and keep hydrated, cranberry juice, probiotics, papaya in my diet. Oregano oil has been known to heal. Just not an area I want to mess with unless I have to. 🙏

How did your doctor find the tiny pin hole? Do you know exactly where the hole is?  GI or Gyny? CT or scope?  What type of surgeon plugged it up and did they tell you the surgery could fail?

Wow.  You have an amazing attitude. Your learned ways to live with it make a lot of sense.  Does your doctor intend to fix the repair? Sorry for so many private questions.  I think something is up.  But nothing was seen on the CT or scope or Gyny exam and even a tampon and food coloring test. I'd like to think I was just crazy and it was a manifestation in my mind, but I know I am not.  I can definitely understand why so many say they have had this for years.  A tiny pin hole must be hard to find and so insidious!

CT FLUSHED WATER THROUGH, ALL OTHER TESTS SHOWED NOTHING BECAUSE IT WAS SO SMALL AND IT WAS A RECTO-FISTUAL THAT WAS HARD TO FIND, HONESTLY i THINK HE JUST GUESSED.

VAGINAL WALL/ MIRRORING RECTUM

GI or Gyny? CT or scope?  What type of surgeon plugged it up and did they tell you the surgery could fail?  MY COLONRECTAL SURGEON WHO DID MY cOMPLETE COLECTOMY WITH J-POUCH, YES HE SAID IT MAY NOT WORK. THEY HAVE A NEW TECHNOLOGY NOW CALLED FIBRIN GLUE ITS A NON-SURGICAL METHOD THE GLUE HELPS TO SEAL THE FISTULA AND ENCOURAGES HEALING. ITS AN OUT PT PROCEDURE DONE UNDER GENERAL ANESTHETIC.

I HAVE NOT SEEN HIM IN 7 YEARS, BEEN ABLE TO MANAGE IT, I THINK IT HEALED UP SOME AS I DO NOT GET STOOL LEAKAGE. TECHNOLOGY HAS COME ALONG WAY. IF I DID ANYTHING I MAY TRY THE FIBRIN GLUE. I HAVE LEARNED THESE SURGEONS ARE GOOD AT TAKING OUR DISEASED PARTS OUT BUT THEY KNOW NOTHING OF THE AFTER CARE. ITS TRIAL AND ERROR, AND THIS GROUP WAS HELPFUL WHEN I FIRST STARTED OUT. FIRST TIME LOGGIN IN IN 8 YEARS. HEY SOMETIMES NATURE JUST HEALS ITSELF. I GIVE IT TO GOD.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU

Thank you so much for sharing and most of all hope. It's good to know things may heal and don't have to go haywire. And management of foods, hydration and fiber may help too.

And if things go south I will definitely ask about the glue. I would be happy to never have surgery on my body again. it's so true, they are good at taking our diseased part out, but the after care is certainly lacking.

My surgeon was awesome, but I've moved far away from him. It's impossible to find a good GI knowledgeable of our rewiring.  At least we have this group!  Thank you again.
