I think that caution is mostly for during he early adaptation period. Some people are frever dehydrated and need to be careful. Others, not so much. I am also a coffee-holic. I went decaf during the early times. Now, I drink full caf espresso al, the time. But, I also brew a half-caf pot that I drink all day.

No problemo.

Coffee does not dehydrate. If that was the case I would be screwed since some days I only drink iced coffee.

Coffee, caffeine and fluid balance

It is commonly reported that drinking caffeinated coffee can lead to dehydration. Recent scientific evidence, however, does not support this commonly held belief.

Coffee drinking in moderation contributes to our fluid intake and does not lead to dehydration or significant loss of body water1,2.

Whilst caffeine may have a small diuretic effect, this effect is not strong enough to counter-balance the benefits of fluid intake from coffee drinking. Black coffee contains more than 95% water.

During exercise, the evidence shows that, not only is moderate caffeine intake beneficial for endurance performance, it does not contribute to body dehydration3,4.

Advice to abstain from drinking moderate amounts of caffeinated coffee in order to maintain adequate fluid balance is unfounded.
Savannah,

I am like you one large cup of coffee every morning (17 ounces). I brew it with a Keurig and use 2 K cups. I like a dark roast coffee so I use Tully's Italian Roast which is currently my favorite. It will not dehydrate you unless you stop drinking liquids afterwards. I drink 2 cups caffeine free herbal tea later in the morning.
I live in Paris where espresso is king...I used to have my morning pot of dark roast coffee and then an espresso every hour til 8pm when I left work (every client that entered my office brought me a coffee before each rdv..) Usually around 8-10x day...I compensate with a large glass of water before and or after each because yes, coffee makes me pee, a lot...so I just make sure to drink enough water to compensate.
My nephrologist told me that as long as I compensate then I am ok.
For new pouches I would not over do anything including pop, caffeine, sugar and fiber but once you get to know your pouch you will be able to reintegrate all of those things in moderation.
