Checking in & Need advice

Hey everybody.

I had my takedown on march 16th, so like 3.5 months ago.

Besides a bout with pouchitis, i've been doing pretty well.

Only one problem: still have this damn anal itch!

After the last couple bowel movements of the day (usually always at the end of the day) I get a terrible terrible itch. I've tried the creams, lotions, etc. (which are a pain because they get messy, making them honestly impractical).

The only thing that works is benedryl anti itch spray. it works, but it STINGS.

does anyone have any suggestions, in terms of sprays or anything?

I'm going about 6-7 times a day. I take 2 imodium/1 pepto bismol in the morning and 1 imodium/1 pepto bismol at night.

It is quite possible you have a yeast/fungal infection. Try over the counter creams first (like miconazole, same as athlete's foot cream). Give it a week or so and if that does not work, call your doctor for something stronger. The barrier creams can lead to fungal infections sometimes.

Every now and then I, too, get the itch you describe. Once while examining me my surgeon was sort of surprised when I told him not to stop because he was taking care of relieving my itch! He told me an anal itch is usually caused by "seepage" and to try to keep the area expecially clean. Sometimes, in addition to cleaning the area frequently, just keeping a bit of cotton "up there" helps along with anti-itch cream or barrier cream such as Calmoseptine. Best wishes.
