I recently had my annual pouchoscopy and some minor ulcers were discovered.  I am on my third gastroenterologist as I had to seek a doctor in state for insurance purposes, then my new doctor moved.  I was prescribed Canasa and while I tried to explain to this doctor why it was not effective and only made it worse, he wanted me to go on it anyway.  In the past, any sort of rectal medication with the exception of cortisone enemas made the bleeding far worse.  At the present I am not experiencing any bleeding, just a little mucus.  Today I start Canasa suppositories and I just want to make sure I am not the problem.  I don't think that in the past I was too aggressive when I inserted them, and I recall having difficulty retaining these medications for longer than a few minutes, which I am sure kept them from being effective.

Has anyone else had these experiences with this type of medication?  Does anyone have suggestions as to inserting them?  I will certainly be as gentle as I can, and I hope that since these ulcers are far less severe than ones I had in the past, I will not encounter problems, but any advice would be appreciated.  Perhaps I should put a lubricant on them before use?  Like I said, any advice will be appreciated, but I am using this drug with full knowledge of past difficulties.
