About a month ago I was having fevers, body aches and gassy, watery, loose stools, but oddly, sometimes also constipated. I thought it might be Lyme disease since I recently had a tick bite and it is prevalent in this area. I was tested for that. My Gastro Dr. also did a stool sample and it turned out to be a c-diff infection. (test for Lyme was neg.) Started on Flagyl but had about every side effect possible and was switched to Vancomyacin for 10 days. Now a few weeks later I am having the same symptoms minus the fever and I think I may still have the c-diff. I am going to try to get another stool sample done tomorrow.

I searched on this forum and found suggestions about an antibiotic Fidaxomicin. Is this likely to get rid of the c-diff if the Vanco. didn't work? Also any suggestions to keep it from reoccurring? I read about Florastor (s.boulardii) which may help. Any other suggestions? I use VSL#3DS. However, I also take Immuran and wonder if that has lowered my resistance to infection.

I have had a j-pouch for 5 years due to UC. I have also had Pyoderma Gangrenosum, and Polymyalgia Rheumatica, both autoimmune problems. Oh, arthritis too.

VSL does not work to prevent c.diff. The only probiotic that does is S. Boulardi. The only thing that cures c.diff is antibitoics though.

Vanco usually knocks it out. Flagyl never worked on me. I was going to try Dificid. Mine has not returned. I swore for months after I got it I had it. 3 negative tests later then it finally just stopped. Took me a while to recover and I had all the symptoms for awhile. I also have SIBO.

Most of the time I had c.diff my stool was never runny. Weird.
Thanks! I didn't realize that the symptoms could continue for a while. Perhaps that's what is happening to me. I'm doing a sample again today so I guess I will know in a few days.
It seems weird that at times I am constipated and only pass small amounts and other times I am quite loose and watery. I will try the S. Boulardi too. I've been taking the VSL since I got the j-pouch.
