Well the first 6 weeks after takedown went very smoothly with no butt burn or frequent trips to the loo. Lately though I have been getting sudden throbbing pains in my rectum and burning. The bathroom trips have gotten a little more frequent also. No fevers or cramping but the suddens pains feel like they are on the left side of the anal canal. It feels kinda of swollen at times down there and it has been burning like fire when I have a bowel movement. I have been using creams and wipes but when I wipe it also feels like needles in certain spots. The symptoms (from what I read) could be either fissures, butt burn or hemorrhoids. How would I rule two of them out to pin point the problem? My diet has been the same since day one and occasionally I have perfectly comfortable movements with no pain at all. Other times it hurts to sit or walk. Also sometimes I get the pains of pressure or spasms Like I have to go but only a little comes out or I go and feel like going again 5 minutes later. Will fissures or hemorrhoids heal on their own? Also is it normal to not have butt burn after takedown but get it a month later even with no change in diet? The sudden throbbing pains really make it difficult at work to concentrate. Also if I lay down real still or don't move much they kinda go away. Sorry for so many questions.

Are your sudden throbbing or spasm pains when you are sitting or walking lasting for 10 seconds or so? When I got those kind I would just stop walking and stand still until it went away. I had those from the beginning so if yours are a new pain maybe you should call your surgeon's nurse. It can initially feel like you need to go to the loo but when waiting it out the urge to poo goes away when the urge stops in 10 seconds. They feel like baby labor pains and that description will not help you since you are not a mother. The ones from going and a little comes out are these. Try holding it for a bit to see if the urge goes away

The burning could be from cuffitis. The doctor could diagnose this with a digital exam. I've had cuffitis but not fissures. I imagine it could be fisures too.

The swollen burning feeling with BM's could be hemorrhoids. You can buy generic or regular prep H to apply outside or use their wipes on the outside. Witch Hazel applied with a cotton ball is good for relief too. Hemmorrhoidal suppositories to insert might be too painful but once inside they are made with soothing 86% cocoa butter. Before my cuffitis was diagnosed I got some relief from these suppositories, out of the tube prep H and Witch Hazel.

So I think if you have not been eating spicy food you are right about it being hemmorrhoids or it could be cuffitis.

I tried chewing 2 pepto bismol chewing tablets several times a day to help with the burning and frequency but my burning inside ended up being cuffitis. Cuffitis is UC so if you feel something like UC chances are it's cuffitis.

I tried going to a soft and liquid diet to see if it helped but you say you've been eating the same since surgery. I tried treating it like hemmorrhoids and suffered too long before going to see my surgeon. By then I was having cramping pain, which you aren't having.

If you don't have an upcoming appointment with your doctor you should set one up. Don't wait it out thinking it is all normal as it might not be. Since you don't know what is "normal" yet don't worry about going in. The pain lasting 10 seconds or so are normal but the burning inside isn't unless you've eaten something spicy.

The butt burn could be just regular ole' but burn and I use Calmoseptine. Make sure you are totally clean by using wipes, bidet or hand held squirt bidet bottle - Amazon $10, or a bath/shower. Dab don't wipe and use Charmin Ultra Soft or Strong TP.

Good Luck Confused
I had a very similar set of symptoms- the throbbing type pain. It also improved on sitting or lying very still. Eventually a stricture was diagnosed and after dilatation I really felt much more comfortable. I still had pouchitis but the discomfort was very different and never throbbed.
The first examining doctor said it felt fine but the second said it was tight and crucially the examiantion provoked the same type of pain - examination is obviously never particularly comfortable but think about the discomfort and try to analyse if it provokes your pain?
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the replays! Well the burning pretty much went away with the use of preparation H and bland thickening foods like bananas so maybe something I ate had a little more pepper in in than usual. Still having the uncomfortable irritated but not painful feeling every now and then. Seems like it happens when it's really hot out and I'm sweating a lot. Other than that the preparation h makes everything pretty comfortable. Thinking I may have a fissure though cause some of the bowel movement feel like razor blades coming out but some do not. Depends on the consistency of stool. The preparation h seems to help with that as well. Seems like if I don't apply some after a BM the next one feels like glass shards but if I do apply it the next one goes smoothly. Do fissures heal on their own?
I don't know but think I've read people talking about the same thing and it was fissures.

Did you know you can do a search on here to find past posts on a subject you are researching. I find it very helpful in the wee hours of the morning. Go to the top left hand side of the tool bar and select the magnifying glass with the "find". You can then put in the words you are looking for.

I'm glad you are getting relief from the prep H so you can at least sleep some.

If you find out what was causing it please let us know.
