Broken seton! | The J-Pouch Group

Hi,

For anyone that has had a seton placed, did any of you have the seton break? I had a cutting seton put in about a week ago to replace my "normal" seton and this morning while I was sitz bathing, I found a piece of the seton in my sitz bath. It was a small loop which looked like it had another seton or some material wrapped around it. I was just wondering if this renders my cutting seton useless and I should expect an abscess to be popping up in my not so distant future :-(

I don't have any experience with this but abscess pain is no fun. Your best bet is have Doctor look. Good Luck!

I had a seton that broke and fell out. It was a non-cutting seton. I had an EUA (Examination under anasthetic) durung which my surgeon replaced it. I imagine your surgeon would want to examine you and decide whether to replace the seton or not. If it has only been in a week I would guess it has broken rather than "cut" through

I had one break, but never a cutting one. Same as Trojan. Same deal, too, they just replaced it under EUA. It's generally not too big of a deal.
