Thursday I will be going in for a capsule endoscopy for unexplained abdominal pain. I received a call from the GI lab informing me that I would have to do a bowel prep the day before (Colyte). I've had a capsule endoscopy performed before my colon was removed and the bowel prep was standard, but I'm questioning whether or not I should have to do this with no colon. I've had pouchoscopy's and upper endoscopy's performed since my colectomy and just did clear liquids the day before and fasting w/ fleet enemas the day of. Has anyone else had to do a bowel prep with a j pouch?

I just spoke to my GI dr and he said it is uneccessary as long as I am on a clear liquid diet the day before. The j pouch will just evacuate everything as liquid anyways. He left it up to me to do an enema (just in case). I probably will just to be sure everything is cleaned out below. I can only imagine us j pouchers having more diarrhea on top of the norm. Your just asking for an unwanted "accident".
