Thank you in advance for reading.

I had a blockage that cleared in the hospital after five days due to adhesions (we assume). Since then (three weeks), eating is a nightmare. I had two CTs There and the first showed the blockage In the lower right quadrant (where I feel my sense of blockages and contractions since) and the second showed it cleared but stopping in my rectum (I have an IRA). I had a followup scope that showed a patent anastomosis. I do have pelvic floor dysfunction so that hold up may be the cause of that. But I feel it higher up again.

I am living on jello, broth, and ice cream (for calories). I felt it brewing for a few weeks before it happened, so this has been awhile.

Every few days I try something more solid (fish, tofu, puréed veg), and feel things slowing or getting stuck.

ive also had to take lactulose daily and many warm water enemas.

i know docs don’t want to do surgery and I understand why — I don’t want to create more problems! But will this ever clear up or am I on a liquid diet and laxatives forever?

ill bring it up again to my surgeon but not convinced they’ll do anything about it. I’d like feedback from someone who has been there hopefully.

Readann,

Your post needs to back up a little bit and tell us when you had the surgery that caused the adhesions in the first place. I had adhesions and blockages in the year or so after surgery and none in the 27 years since. Adhesions are fairly common right after surgery and usually improve over time. However your post has no information on when the surgery was and for how long this has been going on. I am assuming if surgery was mentioned to correct the situation it's been more than a few years since the surgery that produced the adhesions?

Thank you for responding.

I am always hesitant to provide super detailed posts as people don’t want to read a novel. I’ll add more details now based on your response. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

i have had four surgeries in the last year: June 2019 (loop ileostomy), October 2019 (emergency surgery due to blockage and my stoma resected  into My body due to intussception resulting in end ileostomy and resection in small bowel), December 2019 (ileostomy revision and colectomy), June 2020 (ileostomy takedown and ileorectal anastomosis). All were Laparoscopic. My last bowel blockage was three weeks ago but didn’t require surgery. About two weeks before the blockage I was feeling symptoms it was coming. Since then I am feeling the same contractions and have trouble passing solid food, but my Ct scan after the Blockage cleared was clear, minus an issue with my rectum, but this blockage is occurring higher.

i am not doubting you but my surgeon said  Adhesions can occur at any time but your comment eases me.

I am living on jello, broth, and take hours to clear out bowel movements. I just pretty much can’t eat. I’m eating nondairy ice cream for calories and that’s it.

I’m scared this Is my life.

Hi

I was just going through my emails and I noticed this particular post. Now I remember why I decided to follow you is because your blockages are caused by adhesions. I have had eight abdominal surgeries so I have plenty of adhesions and I have been told by my last surgeon who operated on me not to let anybody inside my abdomen again unless it was do or die.
