About 1 this afternoon I started to experience cramping in my lower stomach. It has been there ever since. The pain is getting worse and is starting to feel higher. I get hot and cold and nausea comes and goes. However I don't think its the flu or stomach bug. I don't know if I should take pain med or go to the er. I ate a salad last night and strawberries this morning and nothing else because I'm afraid to eat now. Has anyone else experienced this before? Thanks

It does sound like an obstruction. Drink clear liquids. Move about, massage your abdomen. If the pain becomes severe and/or you begin to vomit, you probably should go to the ER. It is OK to take pain meds, but no ibuprofen or other NSAIDs.

Hope this passes soon.

I had sharp lower abdominal pains that were at times in the upper abdomen about a month ago. Turned out to be acte pouchitis. Go figure...

Can you keep any fluids down? One of the dangers of a blockage is vomitting + dehydration...if you cannot keep fluids down then you will get dehydrated and that can be very dangerous.
Do you have a fever? 'contractions'? I usually get a sudden pain, can then keep nothing down, nausea, vomitting, hot/cold flashes and serious contraction like cramps when my gut is fighting to push everything out but cannot get past the blockage.
I walk a lot, roll back and forth or side to side on my Pilates ball, do circular massages and pray for a happy outcome.
A few tablespoonsfull of prune or grape juice help, so does hot tea and warm water with lemon juice.
My personal limit is 24hrs after which I head for ER...but that is very personal. You know your pain threshold and limits.
A heating pad can ease the pain and cramping (I usually put it behind my back!).
Keep us posted.

Sometimes I find it hard to have a bm and I will mix a little... Not a full dose and it helps get things moving. I have maybe done it three times over a nine ten month period.
When I had my illeostomy I had a blockage and was told to take it and it was taking too long to work and they told me to go to the ER. Well as soon as I got a mile down the road it broke through and the bag poofed right up full. I had to stop... Or my wife did... Five times on a 30 mile trip. Thank goodness it was at night and the roads were not busy. Had I not stopped it would have blew right off. Kinda funny now but it wasn't during the trip!
