Hi
I've only just joined.
I spend the bulk of my time in denial trying to ignore the fact I have a J-pouch, which apart from a lot of trips to the loo is not actually that difficult.
Over the last 3 years I've found after a 30+ minute run I have quite a large amount of blood come out of my bum when I first go for a visit when I get home.
Earlier this summer while training for my second Ironman Triathlon(11hrs 51 min - did first one sub 11 hrs back in 2007 with an ileostomy) this happened a lot and my ferritin ended up low and I was at the bottom end of normal for my Haemoglobin (UK spelling).
I gave in and got scoped yesterday. This has shown a 3cm sloughy ulcer in the pouch. Cuff and anastamosis all OK. Biopsies taken and results awaited.
Anyone got similar experience and/or advice? (other than stop running!)

All I remember is even though my surgeon cut into my abdomen again, recovery from the surgery was a lot easier than recovering from J Pouch surgery. It was all a matter of letting the incision heal at the time. I'm sorry but this surgery had to be somewhere over 20 years ago. After all these years besides the scar, there are no side effects to speak of.

I did make a note of it from back then and it says "5-90 exploratory laparoty lysis adhesions restriction loop perforated ulcer"
Jimmy, I did a search here under j pouch ulcers and found some informative old posts. People talked about symptoms and treatment. You might want to do your own search. Ulcers do not seem to be rare and most posters said they were treated with a course of Cipro.
I had not heard of j-pouch ulcers before but I am glad to hear they are treatable. Could the bleeding be due to the ulcer?
How much blood is it?
