So I had a lovely beet and grapefruit salad at lunch...then forgot about it til an hour before dinner...went to empty my pouch and....screamed.
It took 30seconds, a near heart attack and an aborted call to 911 to remember that I had had beets and grapefruit for lunch...in the following 5 minutes that I was trying to empty my stopped up k pouch that was spitting bright red pulp...I was taken back 33yrs before I had had my pouch done...and remembered what it was like to look down and see...Well, you know what I saw...it looked like I still had a sick colon all over again...
For those of you who have forgotten the horrors of what it felt like to be sick and find a bowl full of blood...I highly reccomend it...you will never regret having your pouch again.

I can't eat grapefruit any more as there is a warning against mixing it with Entocort. I am not sure if it interferes with the action of the medication, or mixes with it to cause a side effect. I can't say I miss grapefruit all that much, although I used to occasionally enjoy the pink variety when in season and the crop is good.

Regarding beets, let me tell you something about beets you may not know. Polish and Hungarian cuisine uses a lot of beets. The Poles mix beets with horseradish, vinegar and sugar for "beet salad." The Hungarians do something similar but don't use the horseradish. My mother (she is Hungarian Jewish, born near Budapest) used beets in a lot of dishes I had growing up. I never loved them but I don't hate them either. I can eat them to keep my mother happy. I grew up eating these ethnic foods yet in my adulthood, I don't find myself often craving them. The food I crave is any Asian cuisine.

As far as red colored foods and beverage generally, always keep track of when they go in so you know what to expect when they come out.
