I looked at the support page for Hoop.La and it appears that you do not need to have a 100x100 photo, as the software automatically resizes. It also says that it automatically crops, but if you can use a cropped picture, or take a selfie that is square, it might be better. Another issue may be with your phone and browser. What phone and operating system do you have?

When you use your iPhone, you cannot choose a photo from your photo library? With iOS it should default to that. The only issue I had was with the need for a square photo, because it would not resize properly. I did this on my iPad, and just checked my iPhone 6 and it offered the same options: Take Photo or Photo Library. The phone was a bit more fiddly, because I had to switch to standard view to be able to get to the Edit Profile link.

Jan- It looks like you changed your avatar pic to one with a seascape in the background.  I also have an iPhone 6+ and I just uploaded a new avatar pic and there was no problem doing this.  This one is similar to my last avatar (same original pink Margaritaville "It's 5 OClock Somewhere" T shirt and black shorts), but a different shot taken on the same day on Mulberry Street in NYC.

Poucho- You have to hit the "update settings" box after you upload the pic otherwise it will not save your changes.  It's very simple to do with the IPhone. No reason to email the pics elsewhere- just upload it straight from your Photo Library.
