Hey, I just woke up after 2 hours of puking/pissing out of my butt. I feel much better now, just dehydrated. I had lunch with some old college buds today at a restaurant/bar I'd never been to. I ordered a cheeseburger with no bun and fries. Now, I usually have no problem with McDonalds fries because the oil they fry them in is only for fries. I have a feeling it was the french fries at this place that caused me to get sick. I don't usually have a reaction from eating gluten, can't ever tell except maybe diarrhea, but today was different. I asked my sister (who's been Celiac since she was two years old) if she ever pukes from getting "glutened." She told me only when she eats fries that were fried in the same oil as other things like fried chicken or fish. "Bingo," I thought. Anyone else have bad reactions to gluten like this? I was diagnosed with Celiac's about the same time as UC, I was 29. I've been eating gluten free ever since (to the best of my knowledge), but you can never be sure unless you make it yourself. I hardly ever puke, but I've had 3 cases within the last 6 months. The other two times I had drank a lot of beer (which is a no no for Celiacs) but didn't know if I had puked because I was so drunk, or if it was because of the gluten. I'm guessing maybe a mix of both. Anway, I don't plan on drinking beer or eating fries at a strange restaurant anymore, but was wondering if any other Celiac's out there ever have this happen. Cheers!

Hi,
I am not a coeliac, but I do have a severe gluten intolerance. I'm usually quiet paranoid about eating out at places I dont know. I usually wouldnt eat fries anywhere except like you mentioned a fast food place where you know you can get away with. I have found that depending on the fries they may/can be coated in or have added gluten products in them???
Beer and coeliacs, man your brave!!!I'm not suprised you puke after drinking it....I wouldn't go near the stuff!!! Have you tried any gluten free beer? I dont bother with alcohol anymore...doesn't like me much....start vomiting after a couple of drinks (even if they are gluten free.)
A couple of weeks ago I went out to a cafe with friends... I ordered a coffee with soy (g.free) plus a gluten and dairy free cake which I wouldn't usually have..... few hours later.... vomiting and diarrehea? Don't know what caused it...doesn't help with the food paranoia!!!lol.
Not sure any of this helps you...but anyway... hope you feeling better.

Hey Mussen, thanks for responding. I thought there would be more people with Celiac's on this site because there is a pretty good correlation of UC and gluten intolerance. I have had Redbridge beer quite a bit. It's about the only gluten free beer that is sold in the grocery stores around here. My problem is after I'm done with that $9 six pack of Red Bridge, I always want more and just switch to gluten full beers which isn't such a good idea. Always seems like a good idea at the moment though. Haha, wonder why that is.
