Hello Everyone:

I've had my pouch for 5 years and chronic pouchitis since the beginning. Fortunately until recently it has been kept in check with antibiotics. Recently I am in a severe stress induced flare that won't settle and most alarming seems to have spread to my throat.

I just spent a week in hospital trying to determine the cause of the sore throat that has varied from painful to excruciating over the past three months, until finally I couldn't swallow due to pain and was becoming dehydrated. This sore throat has gone on in conjunction with this pouchitis flare. My dx is UC and my GI is confident that is correct but I haven't seen her since coming back from the hospital yet.

After investigation they confirmed it is not fungal but rather ulcerations in my throat and mouth similar to UC which apparently is a rare UC comorbidity. Currently on Prednisone which is working to heal overall but I know it is a short term fix. Terrified of coming off Pred and getting sick again. Off work for the past two months and trying to stay positive. Going to try a biologic next. Wondered if anyone else has ever had a similar experience and how it worked out? Thanks for reading, this forum is a life saver.
