Hello everyone, Im new to the forum and new to getting a J-Pouch. I have my take down  in one month. My surgeon wants  me to get another procedure called a Whipple surgery.

Ive researched it and it doesnt look very pleasant and quite frankly I cant even think of the quality of life I would have missing my colon and my other organs if I go through with the Whipple.

I have FAP and they found polyps in my Duodenum, hence the need of the Whipple surgery.

Anybody have any other alternative surgery done to get rid of polyps in the Duodenum ??

Im getting a bit nervous about this to be honest with you

Looking for any feedback, thanks in advance!

Yes, I had my j pouch surgery in 2016 and a Whipple November of last year after cancer was found in my duodenum.  Fortunately it was found very early and had not spread. The whipple is a big surgery with a tough route to recovery. I’m feeling better every day but still struggle with gi issues. I did not hesitate to have the whipple as it was literally a life saving “cure” for me.  I would get a second and third opinion before having the whipple surgery. If you have to have it done, please make sure that you go to a surgeon who does a lot of them.  I mean dozens if not hundreds. It is the magnum opus of surgeries and you need a team that has a great deal of experience with it. Good luck and god bless you.
