At this point Flagyl is the only thing that really works to control my pouchitis, but it is really hard to gag down. I think they are making those pills bigger and nastier tasting every month! Eeker

I have found if I have a strong taste in my mouth it is not so bad, so I have started putting a tiny dab of very minty toothpaste on my tongue before I start taking the pieces. (Due to a recent stomach surgery I have to cut them into quarters). Does anyone have any other tips or suggestions?

And in case anyone was wondering, do NOT crush the pill and put it in garlic cream cheese to mask the taste. Trust me!

It is a hard pill to swallow, so I break it in half and just gulp it down with liquid. Do not savor it, it is not candy and is not meant to be sucked like a lozenge. Just swallow it rapidly and you will not taste it. Pretend you are gulping down a shot of Scotch whiskey. That is how it is to be taken, not like candy. It should spend less than half a second on your tongue, any longer than that is too long.

Maybe if you chewed a piece of gum right away or used a breath mint or piece of hard candy it would help with the after taste. Maybe it's because of your stomach surgery that it bothers you more than it does me. I have no problems swallowing them but don't like the first few days of nausea and general over all crappy feeling I get from them!
