Antibiotics for pouchitis | The J-Pouch Group

Hi, I have a question about antibiotics. I know this should be directed to my doc but it being Saturday I thought I would check to see what folks here think.

I am 15 years post take down. I was on Cipro for 10 years to control chronic pouchitis and then had to change to Augmentin when the Cirpo stopped being effective. Now the Augmentin does not appear to be working anymore. Do you think going back to Cipro would work or should I try an entirely different antibiotic?

I am on Cipro and flagyl together. A lot on this site I find is or was on this combo. I took Cipro alone and did not work. This is working better and hope it continues.

When Cipro stopped working for me, adding Flagyl did the trick. I tried other individual antibiotics first (Augmentin, Xifaxan), since one drug is preferable to two, but none were effective for me.

Maybe you can try it again and rotate it with a different one. I'm rotating Augmentin and Xifaxan but the Xifaxan is very expensive.

Just wanted to follow up. I went back on Cipro and felt 100% better within a day.
