It is a good thing this Thanksgiving was our quiet year, where I could vary the menu from the ghastly gastric gluttonous feast our family usually puts forth. We are having a simple dinner of coho salmon, mashed sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli. Pumpkin pie for dessert. Still sounds like too much food for someone who is struggling with a partial blockage that has me weak and shaky. I think my days of over-indulgence are long past. However, I do wish I could enjoy a meal without wondering if one of my many twists and turns (I have Crohn's in addition to a j-pouch and two small hernias)is going to become a show-stopper.

What do you all do with these food-oriented holidays if you can't eat?

I keep busy in the kitcen preparing, avoid sitting down for more than the obligatory prayers and then play 'pop-tart'...I pop up every time someone wants something...makes people think that I was at the table and gets me out of eating...then I pretext having nibbled all day long while I was cooking.
Works for 9/10 occasions. Only problem comes in when I am invited to someone else's home (I still offer to serve and help...).
Happy Thanksgiving anyway and try making soup a family tradition from now on!
