Hi all

I had a pretty severe anal stricture, which was dilated under general anaesthetic last Wednesday.
The surgery notes read “dilated from 10 to 15”, which I’m assuming is the measurement in mm (maybe Jan Dollar can confirm?)

Since the surgery I have found there to be no significant improvement in passing stool and things still seem as tight as ever.

Should I expect an immediate improvement or do these things take time? I have been taking laxatives and stool softeners for the past 5 months, which I’m now tapering off, so could this be affecting my pouch function?

I have a follow up with the surgeon where he said he will scope me and also do a balloon dilation so this may help improve pouch function.

If there is anyone who has had a similar experience and can advise then that would be much appreciated.

Regards

Clive

I have had about 5 finger dilations because of an anal stricture. It's finally staying open now. I always noticed immediate relief afterwards. It would take several weeks after the dilation that I noticed it felt like it was closing up again.

Your situation sounds more problematic than mine was since you had to be put under to have it done. I would think you would notice an improvement. If your follow up isn't for a while, I would give your doc a call to let them know. Hope you get some relief soon....I know what a pain those strictures can be.
