My son had his first infusion of Remicade last Friday.   Pouchitis symptoms improved which is good.  Yesterday he had a full blown delayed allergic reaction with just about every symptom.  Gave him benedryl and Dr put him on 5 days of prednisone.  Today, so far so good.  My question is- Is this allergic reaction an indication of antibodies?  We are having the Prometheus test next week.

Maybe, maybe not. They can test for anti-Remicade antibodies, so you don’t have to wonder. Antibodies generally make Remicade less effective, but can also cause a reaction. The infusion reaction could could be just allergic. It is more common when you’ve been on Remicade, stopped it, then resumed later. I presume he was premedicated? I always get Tylenol, an antihistamine and IV SoluCortef.
