Alinia and Xifaxan - insurance/pharmacy issues

Are you sure your insurance isn’t simply denying the medications? There’s usually a process for getting out-of-formulary medications approved based on medical necessity, but in general the process is intentionally cumbersome and requires your doctor’s uncompensated effort.

Hi Scott.  The pharmacies told me they were approved by insurance but only picked up a small portion.  I've used both meds for years and one pharmacy stopped carrying the Alinia and the Xifaxan is always a pain with the pre-approval but normally covered.  I will call the insurance company tomorrow and see what they say!

I know Xifaxan is super expensive and I imagine many insurance plans will require a prior authorization. My Dr always sends a manufacturer’s coupon with the prescription which helps out.
