Hi gang!

Hope everyone is doing well, just have a quick question for you. Since my K pouch surgery last June, I've been getting body aches almost every day now, I know UC is an autoimmune disease, therefore, affecting more then just the affected organ, and I've had body, specifically joint pain/aches before, but not like this. Not sure if you're aware, but in 2009, and 2011 I've had both shoulder operated on (rotator cuff decompression) thanks to the arthritis caused by this disease and side effects from the meds. Now, my right knee, both shoulders (again), and left foot and ankle are flaring on a daily basis, seeing a few different orthopaedic surgeons that I work with to advise me, but I'm pretty certain I'll need to have my knee and both shoulders scoped out. My question to you is, have you had this problem, and if so what did you do to treat it? I'm no doctor, but I have a pretty good idea of what's going on, I'm just SO sick of surgery. I'm definitely not afraid of it, but since I began my anti-anxiety/depression meds in 2009, I have a horrible reaction when being put to sleep. I go into what I can best describe as a absolutely horrendous nightmare. Feel like I'm loosing my mind, the longer I'm out, the longer it takes to snap out of it, yeah, the chronic anxiety and depression is yet another side effect, hey, UC, the gift that keeps on giving! Lol! Sucks, but not much we can do about it. Anyways gang, just thought I'd throw that out there, I'm sure I'm not alone, I'm just afraid to see what's next! Thanks, take care,

Cheers!

Eric,
My joints have been in chronic pain for as long as I can remember, especially the spine but luckily for me there is no arthritis anywhere...I keep very active and limber so it helps with the pain quite a bit and I see a good chiropractor regularly...mine does not just adjust the back...she works on my ankles, knees, wrists...she even does my big toe which is in nasty pain some days....I have found only 2 links to the pain that I can control...foods...certain ones worsen it...must be food allergies or sensitivities that are responsible and sugar/chocolate. They make the knees throb...you might want to try an inclusion diet to see if it helps....start out on nothing but fluids for 24hrs (herb teas, broth etc) and then add grilled or barbqued chicken to the mix...every 24 add a food (start light and save dairy, glutens, sugars & fats for last)...and see how you feel or if you get a reaction one way or the other...sometimes it really does help to illiminate certain foods.
Hope this helps Eric
hugs...Sharon
I'm sorry you have all of this going on too! I have fibromyalgia and arthritis as well and I don't know what is causing my new hip joints pain. My suspect is fibromyalgia as my Rheumy said I didn't have the worse kind of arthritis that goes along with UC. I don't know how she could tell by just examining me, with no x-rays.

Sharon may be right on her diet tips. Wouldn't hurt to try it.
After 20 years of steroids, I have a lot of aches and pains in my joints. I use a topical gel every four hours for relief in my ankles but what really gives me the most relief is doing joint stretches four times a day. I learned the stretches from two different physical therapists with specialized degrees in sports medicine and arthritis. Each session takes about 15 minutes. Do you have access to someone like that? Even walking can be painful for me without stretching.

Thanks Subzeromambo and Mountain Baker - great suggestions.

I took prednisone for 6 months in 1997-1998 and refused to ever take it again. An endocrinologist that was testing my blood, for a different manner, 10 years later asked me how long ago did I last take prednisone. I told him 10 years ago and he said my blood work looked like I had just quit taking it a month ago. That was scary.

I know we all are different but that is why I didn't take biologics. I also had diverticulitis pan colon, as well UC, and they weren't sure it would help anyway.
