Between my two surgeries I walked on the treadmill and used the eliptical. It took me about nine weeks from the first surgery to get back to the same level and steps per minute that I was doing before the first surgery. I think this had a big impact on my recovery from the takedown, two days in the hospital and back to work (desk job) five days after the takedown. Weights are out until you heal from your takedown due to the risk of a hernia.
I did plenty of ab work - weights, pilates, etc..- with my loop ileo. However, you MUST make sure your surgeon has cleared you for physical activity. He has to make sure you are healed. Also, your doctors may want you to limit the amount of weight you are lifting overhead, but that surely doesn't stop you from working out or doing other ab work.

Basically I did almost everything I did without an ileo, while I had and now have again an ileo. Have swam, biked, ran half marathons, and more. No need to limit yourself, as long as you have doctors clearances.
I'm planning on doing lot's of stairs and walking here after Step 1
and then work back into situps and pushups following takedown when I
get the green light.

I've been surfing for 30+ years and this surgery is not going to keep me
from getting back out into the water. I imagine the stoma site is going to
be the worst spot while laying on the board and paddling until it toughens
up.
