Trying to figure out what’s going on and how to get/feel better. I woke up Friday 8/2 (10 days ago)  with severe diarrhea. Wasn’t able to eat much that day (which has continued since). Woke the following day with vomiting/dry heaving (which has continued since, too, along with the diarrhea). Had to leave town on a [miserable] 10 hour road trip that day. I went to the emergency room the day after that (Sunday), and they just said I was slightly dehydrated, so they gave me some saline through IV, and said it just appeared to be a virus that needed to work its way out. They sent me home with Zofran for nausea and Bentyl for the stomach cramping. The symptoms continued all week long (a couple days with slightly improved symptoms but then just got worse again). Went back to the ER yesterday morning. I was not dehydrated anymore (after a week of their suggested half water/half Gatorade concoction) but otherwise still in rough shape. They did a CT scan, which didn’t show anything specifically concerning other than a severely inflamed small intestine. They decided it must be a bacterial infection and sent me home with antibiotics (Flagyl & Levaquin) among with more Zofran and Norco, in case needed. We then hit the road back on a miserable 10 hour ride back home (Houston) and got back late last night. I haven’t experienced any relief at all since beginning the antibiotics. Slept a bit last night (which was better than the prior night where I was hardly able to sleep at all). Calling my surgeon tomorrow (and any other doctors I know of to make sure someone can see me tomorrow). I don’t have many issues since getting my J-pouch in 2012. Would appreciate any advice/ideas as to what could be. Thanks!

How many doses of the antibiotics have you taken and what dose?  Have you ever had pouchitis?  If it is pouchitis, then being sick for 10 days is not the same as being sick for a day or two, meaning the antibiotic may take longer to take effect.  I personally feel the antibiotics working within 12-24 hours, but if I've been sick and dehydrated, then sometimes 48 hours, but I know it is working., and the effect is gradual.  I hope you start to feel better soon.
