i am having a Pouchoscopy next Tuesday. This takes the place of my colonoscopy which I use to get every year due to years of Ulcerative Colitis. Well.. since there is no colon I am getting a Pouchoscopy under twighlight sedation. I’m very nervous not about the procedure but rather the health of my J -Pouch AFTER the procedure. I’m nervous that if my Gastroenterologist takes some biopsies of the pouch he is going to tear it. I don’t get how those areas are going to heal. Can somebody explain how this works and if I’m goin to have that urgency for days afterwards. Ugh! Thank you!!!

You're going to be just fine with you first pouchoscopy!  It is very similar to a colonoscopy, without as bad as prep work.  Afterwards, your body may take a little bit to readjust after the light prep and fasting in preparation for the scope, but I've never had any issues with urgency to go days following as a result of the actual procedure or from the biopsies. Once I start eating again, things go back to normal fairly quickly. My pouch turns thirteen this year and I've been blessed with a lot of pouchoscopies and a lot of biopsies over the years.  I dislike preparing for the scopes, but afterward things go back to normal and I know what is actually occurring with my pouch.

Thanks Scott! May I ask what your prep is?

My GI doc told me to drink 1/2 bottle of Magnesium Citrate since my frequency tends to be high. Although it is getting better with time. Plus, I do take Lomotil and Imodium to keep it at bay. If you do drink the Magnesium Citrate... do you hold your breath and just drink or do you mix it with Gatorade one of those electrolyte drinks? Thanks!!!

I drink 3/4 bottle of Mag Citrate straight and not on the rocks or shaken. It’s not a lot to drink. Just power chug it and don’t savor it.  Its not that hard to get it down because the bottles are small.

Don’t use the cherry (red) Mag Citrate or it will mess up the scope and you will have to redo the scope. Get the clear lemon flavor.

I also do a fleet enema the morning of.

Thank you CTBarrister. Gonna start at4:00. I’m drinking Boost right now for the protein and other good stuff. MyGI said I can eat today but fluid dinner. I have chicken broth but I forgot to buy beef. For some reason the beef broth fills me u more. It’s all mental. I just want it to be over and have nothing go wrong. In other words nothing has changed or no cancer. Thus is my 3rd attempt for a scope and every time I go in with a blockage daysahead of time. Not this time! I’m determined.

Thank you everyone! Had my Pouchoscopy and all is good! No cancer ... just a sore tush ... now but I knew that would happen with the high liquid frequency plus the Magnesium Citrate. But I am just happy that my GI doc said there is a slight inflammation due to my chronic Pouchitis. Not as bad as we thought it would be.

So thank you for calming me down guys!!!

LIFE IS GOOD💃💃💃
