I’ve been on Flagyl for a few years without problems, but I’m on a lower dose than yours. Finding the lowest effective dose will help keep side effects to a minimum. Have you tried lowering the dose to see if it might still be effective for you? I also have found that taking it once per day (at bedtime) works just fine, though I don’t think I’d take 1000 mg in a single dose.

Alvis,

I had a few severe yeast infections, also accompanied by warts, while taking cipro, Flagyl and Entocort. The yeast infections were very resistant to treatment until I rotated off cipro and Flagyl and onto Xifaxin. Xifaxin isn’t systemically absorbed, hence your skin bacteria has the opportunity to regenerate and the repopulation serves to stifle the yeast infection. Yeast infections of the skin, in those taking antibiotics, according to my dermatologist, are due to fungi filling the space previously occupied by deceased skin bacteria killed by the antibiotics. Once the normal bacteria of the skin is restored, the empty spaces are filled.

I wasted around 3-4 months fighting a yeast infection in my groin and leg area with assorted topical creams and powders. Rotating onto Xifaxin and taking diflucan antifungal pills, prescribed by my dermatologist, knocked it out in 3 weeks. Once the Fungi dies, your skin is still red for a while but becomes scaly and flaky like the aftermath of a sunburn. Once all that peels away, your skin is back to normal.

I am trying 750 mg a day instead 500 in the morning and 250 at night AND I am doing triple on the probiotics and taking Aloe juice to cleanse my body I recently took a IgG test food sensitivities test and a candida/Yeast test I have sensitivities to Milk,Wheat, gluten, peanuts,Soybeans, eggs, pumpkin seeds, brazil nuts, and a few other things slightly to beef I can eat all other meats the beef need to avoid for 3 months the yeast is moderate according to the test.

Xifaxin didnt work for me I got sick in a week after taking Cipro is useless as well on Flagyl helps my main issue is constant sinus issues sneezing my head off in the morning eyes all puffy runny nose ext. and according to regular allergist I am allergic to nothing so I had these tests done independently I gave them to my GI and Primary Doc primary Doc doesnt feel they are reliable! well I dont care what he thinks I am taking steps to get this under control I think the key is getting the yeast under control

Hello

I have issues with this due to the various crohns medications I take. I have found one thing to help immensely. I bought a make-your-own douche kit. Fill it with water and hydrogen peroxide. I do about 1/3 peroxide to 2/3 water. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural yeast killer and is inexpensive. I try to do this about once a week and have not had issues with yeast since I started. Hope it helps.

For guys it’s usually where the sun don’t shine- arm pits and leg pits and under the scrotum (jock itch). When I have gotten yeast infections due to antibiotics it’s always been in these areas. You can knock it out by using Zeabsorb antifungal powder and by tanning naked, for just 5 minutes. Fungi don’t like sunshine which is why you only see mold develop in moist and dark places. I also use a blow dryer after showering to keep arm and leg pits dry. Never put ointments or cream on a yeast infection on your skin because they all have water - use powder, keep area dry and exposed to intense light. I am a veteran of major yeast wars and this is how you fight them off.
