I have adjusted to eating food at home that will not irritate my pouch. However, when dining away from home, I am not always aware of dish ingredients. Often the results is extreme pouch irritation-waste been pushed out at a rapid rate and very frequently. This lasts for several days.   ANY suggestions as to how to alleviate this problem--  medication etc?

What you are describing as “pouch irritation” actually sounds more like a motility issue. If so it has nothing to do with what you are eating but just the fact of eating anything will cause bursts of bowel movements right after meals. I would suggest taking an anti-spasmodic 45 minutes before each meal and see whether it clears up what you are labelling “pouch irritation.”

If that doesn’t work, you may want to try isolating what foods might be causing the issue. However it sounds like you have a spasmodic pouch which wouldn’t be unusual if you are not far removed from takedown.

I think I know what you are saying. Post takedown I was at home for about 8 weeks and it was all good but when I joined back my college and started having food in mess, it caused severe loose motions. They had extra spices in the curries and what not. I just eat foods that are easy to digest like brown breads, butters, tea most of the time in mess. Eggs I boil in my own room. I even prepare oats and eat lots of bananas. And if still I have to eat there or outside I usually eat only pasta/rice items/ meats and no salad ever when I am outside. Salads dont cause much trouble anymore but you never know.
