Hello, Borislav.

For the itching, can you try plain Vaseline?  Try a cream for a baby's diaper rash can help soothe j pouch bum burn and itching. Vaseline, or Zincofax. After each BM clean the area with water, dry completely, then apply Vaseline. Try not to use dry toilet paper, try not to leave any poo behind, which can make more bad burn because your skin is raw. See if that works if Calmoseptine is not available to you.

For loose liquid stools, in my early j pouch days (last year), I found that baked potato, or a baked yam, helped make stools a bit thicker and slowed down. I avoided pizza because it was too much carbohydrates for my stomach and make me go even more, but for some members pizza works. The looser the stool, the more you will feel the acid burning because food is moving through your bowel so fast, nothing to absorb the acids. Some members say marshmallows help make stools thick. I never tried that (I'm diabetic). If certain foods are not making any difference to your BMs, switch to another food. Put chicken aside, try fish for awhile, or squash well cooked. Whatever you eat, peel the skins and don't eat any raw vegetables, nuts, seeds, or salads for now. Don't give up.

Hello, Borislav.

The burning acid that you are feeling is from bile. Everyone produces bile. J pouchers suffer more burning from the bile because we do not have the big colon to hold / neutralize the bile acids and we go to the bathroom more than people who have a colon. The job now is find a way to make your stools more solid, and not so many times, so it does not burn so much. Food choices will help, and so will Immodium.

Are you able to see or talk to your family doctor about pouchitis?  Pouchitis (inflamed pouch) causes frequency, leaking, loose stools, and all this results in burning skin. Your family doctor can diagnose if you have pouchitis. If you do have pouchitis, you can get a prescription for Cipro, which is an antibiotic. It might be called something else in your country. For most people, Cipro works very fast, sometimes by the 3rd pill. I don't know if your surgeon is your only doctor, or if you also have a family doctor, but If you can't wait until you see your surgeon at the endoscopy, your own family doctor can diagnose if you have pouchitis and can write a prescription for you.

Hello, Borislav. Sometimes I can have a mild pain at my old ileostomy site. I am 1 year after reversal. It is healed completely, only a light purple colour, but if I move a certain way it can give me a sharp pain even now. I think it is my scar tissue or adhesions. You are early days so your old ostomy site inside is still healing. Some people heal faster than others. So much happened at the ostomy site so it may take more time for scar tissue to soften and the swelling to settle down. My stomach area was swollen for many months, but finally swelling went down, maybe at 8 months, maybe longer, I can't remember. But it hurt in the early months if I sat down or stood up. Is yours red, feels hot, or bleeding?
