I think part of it is that the stool tends to be soft, which makes it harder to separate stool from gas, and to distinguish the two. Another part probably has to do with the shape and size of the pouch, which isn’t as well-designed for farts as the original rectum was. I don’t think it has anything much to do with the sphincter, at least not in my case.
