Reply to "Total Colectomy after RNY Gastric Bypass"

I had a similar surgery.  I had a gastric sleeve done during my first surgery, with a couple of other things done.  I was in surgery for 9 hrs.  Anyway, I had UC really bad and had to loose the colon but to be hooked back up I had to loose over 100 lbs.  (Got to love steroids, not) anyway with the sleeve I was able to loose the weight and get reconnected.  The main issue I have is making sure I watch my weight still.  Food does not hurt as bad as it did before my surgeries so I feel like eating more.  In many ways I am glad I had both done, as I don't put as much food through my jpouch.  I know I would eat more if I had not had it done.  Now that I am a couple years out I see that it helps with control.  One thing I have found in my research and living like this I have found there is no way to predict everything.  Sometimes you have to go for it and hope for the best.  Deal with any after effects as they come.  I would do it again, even though I do have some issues.  Overall the positive of feeling better outweighs the issues.  Good Luck, hope that helps.
