Straining is pretty much always a bad idea. If your stool is firm enough to require straining then you'd be better off loosening it up with more fluid intake or psyllium fiber (or both).

See my problem is how much straining is ok? It's hard for people to understand but we have a whole new system we are trying to figure out.
