Reply to "Should I be stretching out antibiotic use beyond every month?"

Depends on what kind of solution you're looking for here. Many guys have been doing well on many years on continuous antibiotic use. I personally feel I should induce foreign substance as little as possible. My experience with UC taught me one thing steroids/ antibiotics could never heal me, if anything they just made me more dependent on them with every passing day. So even with one bout of pouchitis I just fasted for an entire day eating only bananas and breads. I went against my GI's recommendation to have a course of 7 days of antibiotic. When I told my surgeon he laughed at me. He thought its silly to assume antibiotics cause harm. But he also said for what its worth if you can somehow cure it without meds its always the better choice.

I considered myself very healthy at that point so I took the decision. I knew I could handle the extra bms with a day of rest. So it all comes down to how well I am, what I am feeding myself and how far I am willing to go.
