Reply to "High grade dsyplasia... How much time do I have before surgery?"

I had mine out for dysplasia also. Surgery was done about a month later.  One of the issues in CRC when you have UC is it doesn't follow the step wise progression in nonIBD patients.  Regarding my surgeon, it was 'no rush' but she preferred it no more then 2-3 months after diagnosis. I would try to make sure the path is read by a GI pathologist.  Mine was initially read at Vanderbilt so I didn't seek out another opinion.  I too, was shocked initially to realize it was the whole large intestine.  I had one 11mm mass at the mouth of my appendix, thought I would get a right hemi.  Not so much. After I asked a lot of questions and read a crap ton of articles on Pub Med, I came to terms with it.  I was healthy, I wasn't dying from being ill from my UC so I had to look at this a  life preserving and life altering. With your history of PSC, you truly do need to move along in your decision making and not dally around.

Life preserving.  Different in my mind because it isn't life saving, we have time to make the choice versus many here who immediate death was their option.  It is both easier, and harder because our is dysplasia. Fear of cancer or fear of giving up the life you know now.  For me, I was unwilling to wait and pray I got it before it was CRC was present or had Mets.  And, I figured better to have a surgery while healthy and fewer medical problems because who knows what tomorrow holds.  If you want PM me. I am willing to chat with you about it.  Good luck.
