Hernia Surgery

I have a hernia where my stoma used to be.  My surgeon and my gastro think I should leave it alone but it is getting bigger, plus it is unsightly!  The surgeon, Dr Fleshner, is good at what he does.  He is going to insert a mesh.  However, my last surgery entailed removing painful scar tissue that was causing ascites, in which he also inserted a mesh.

I worry about the formation of new scar tissue which might necessitate a follow up surgery if it is painful or causes ascites again.  It felt like broken glass was moving through my stomach.  The pain was off the charts.

Has anyone had successful hernia repair, or does anyone have a cautionary tale to share?  This is the first surgery that makes me nervous!  Thank you.
