As far as women are concerned, we tend to have 2 major problems that are linked to hair loss...1. our thyroid glands...if you tend to be hypothyroid you could see hair loss, exhaustion, weight gain, fuzzy thinking and a lot of other problems. If I am not wrong hyperthyroidism can also cause hair loss and weight loss...(a major trauma can throw your body into either of these along with many other problems)
2. Hormones. If you have entered pre-menopause then you could feel all of the above plus dry skin, hot flashes, sleeplessness, moodiness, and a whole lot more.
It has been a while for me but I remember that after every single long surgery (not the 10 min procedures but the 5+hour ones) my hair would fall out in clumps.
I suspected that it had something to do with the general anesthetic or the shock that the surgery put my body through or both...I never received any official medical confirmation so it is more an opinion than fact.
I can remember a girlfriend (my she be blessed) came to the hospital and washed my hair for me about 5 days post-op...I could see the horror on her face as she pulled clump after clump of hair out of the drain...I reassured her that it was normal and that it would grow back.
To reassure most of you, it did...maybe never quite as thick as before but I no longer looked like a bald eagle!
I did try to eat healthily, increase the amount of fish (salmon) and other animal proteins, and eat lots of vegetables (more common sense than medical advice)
I also massaged my scalp with my head hanging down and used cold water to rinse my hair after washing (to close the pores)...I do not know if this actually helps anything at all.....but my dermatologist suggested it and my hairdresser agreed.
When I look back at the old pictures from 2007-2010 at a time when I had had a lot of surgery I see how sparse my hair was...
