I have been inactive on this forum for a while and decided to check in. My UC diagnosis was always a bit provisional but was treated with mesalamine, etc... About a year and a half ago, on a hunch, I decided to try going gluten free, which as a practical matter means cutting out wheat and rye. The positive effects were rapid and profound. I am essentially symptom free, only becoming ill when I slip up on the gluten. My GI doc is now leaning against the UC diagnosis, although he still has me taking 1000 mg. of mesalamine per day just as a precaution.
