What you should expect of your doctor:

You should:

  1. feel comfortable in the doctor's presence.
  2. feel free to discuss ANY problem, medical or personal.
  3. be able to say what you feel is important, howeverlong it takes.
  4. be able to ask any question you want and get an answer.
  5. be made to understand your condition and your treatment.
  6. be seen on time.


Your doctor should:

  1. be confident enough to seek another opinion if needed
  2. return your phone calls in a timely fashion.
  3. refer you to doctors who will take equally good care of you.
  4. ensure that you'll be covered for emergencies
  5. Your doctor shouldn't be offended if you want a second opinion.
  6. Your doctor's staff should treat you with respect and caring.


What your doctor should expect of you.


Your doctor should expect you to:

  1. feel comfortable in your dealings.
  2. bring all needed information, records, etc.
  3. answer all questions without taking offense.
  4. be on time for appointments
  5. bring up any reservations you may have,
  6. your understanding if he's having a bad day.
  7. understand that he has a home life, too.
  8. If your doctor is unavailable, it's better to wait until he is, if
  9. that's possible.
  10. Forgive the excess paperwork that everyone faces today.
  11. Understand that medicine is an art and common sense counts for a lot.
  12. Don't be offended if your doctor doesn't remember envery name.
  13. Understand that doctors can't control all aspects of healthcare
  14. Doctors, being human, appreciate a thank you note for extra effort.
