on November 28th, 2017 I had a proctocolectomy and jpouch construction with loop ileostomy (jpouch will be connected in a few months and the ileostomy will be reversed). Anyway, I have had this for less than two weeks but for the first week everything was great! Output was a good consistency and amount. Recently I’ve had issues with my output. It’s clear/yellow and watery. It looks almost like urine. My output has also increased from between 600-700cc to about 1,000cc. I’m drinking my electrolytes and sticking to the GI soft diet. My surgeon also prescribed me Lomotil (I’m allergic to Imodium). My question is, does anyone know why this is happening, is it permanent, and are there any other things to stop it from happening that don’t require medication? I do not want to become dependent on Lomotil.

Thanks!

Jess

I used Lomotil 2 pills 4 times a day when I had my ileostomy.  With my j-pouch, I rarely use it.  It never occurred to me that I would be dependent on it.  I agree it's better than becoming dehydrated.  Keep an eye on your output.  If it is concerning, check with your surgeon.  I know I measured it for a while in the beginning, but I don't remember what was considered a normal daily amount or anything about the color.
