Still dealing with butt burn post takedown six weeks out; trying every cream imaginable and trying my best to follow everyone's advice from previous posts in the forums as to staying away from acidic foods but I do have a question on lemon juice; even though it is acidic it does help to make the pH alkaline yes?  Would it then also help to tone down the acidic stool or is that more of a product of bile? I'm just getting tired of drinking plain water even though I love it and was thinking about putting lemon juice in the water to spruce it up ( I was drinking lots of Gatorade while I had my ostomy appliance but now the citric acid and that seems to make things worse).

thanks

Scott

I changed from diluted Gatorade to 1/2 coconut water with 1/2 water, ice and a splash of low acid orange juice about 2 mos. ago.  I sometimes put a dash of salt in it, especially if it's hot or I am very active.  So far it seems to be working.  It's hard for me with salt, so I usually just salt my food.  Before j-pouch, I wasn't much of a salt person, so I have to be more aware of it now.  I get my coconut water from Costco, or on sale.  I am almost 10 mos. out and very rarely have butt burn. We went away about 2 mos. post takedown and I had the worst butt burn ever; very happy to get home and to use the bidet followed by a sitz bath.   Last month we went away again for 5 days, no butt burn at all.  We are going away again tomorrow until Sunday.  I am bringing Calmoseptine, extra Immodium and Lomotil just to be safe.  This will be a hiking, shopping and eating vacation.  It definitely has gotten much better for me!  Just takes a while.

I have to admit I was very skeptical at first about a post I read by ANDREWAZ707  advising to squeeze lemon juice into water and drink that twice a day. Well I have to tell you I started doing that right after I originated this thread and I can't believe it but it's actually working and I'm really really happy about it.   A dramatic difference. So shout out to ANDREW707, thank you for the advice and I hope it continues to work.
