takedown next Monday,, I don't know if I will need antibiotics, probiotics, immodium, Metamucil, benefiber or anything at all yet obviously, but just hoping I don't have to deal with pouchitis.. I would think it would be best to take a probiotic shortly after takedown..it cant hurt correct? VSL#3 seems to be the most well known of these but sooo damn expensive.

Can anyone shed any light on any of this? thanks guys. Just getting anxious over the surgery in a week

I just had my takedown three weeks ago and just started probiotics today.  No signs of pouchitis yet thank god but beware of the butt burn.  This is no joke the pain I am suffering from but burn is excruciating bringing me near to tears.  I would highly recommend buying a portable bidet from ebay  and cleansing with this from the start.  Rinse well and pat dry with T.P. when done.  It would not hurt to have a jar of Ilex paste on hand either.  The surgery is a breeze compared to prior ones but getting use to the new plumbing is difficult.  I would plan on staying near a toilet for at least three weeks.  Also peanut butter and apple sauce on pancakes is delicious and helps regulate the B.Ms.  Bring the bidet and a couple of good rolls of toilet paper to the hospital with you, by the time I left that hospital toilet paper felt more like 80 grit sandpaper.

Good luck Poucho I hope you have a speedy recovery and please take care of the butt burn issue before you experience it.  You do not want to feel like I do right now.
