borislav I'm new to the jpouch I'm a month post take down but from the advice I've gotten on here and suggestions I have gotten is your bowels are more relaxed at night so yes it is possible to go more at night I don't know what time you stop eating but for me I try not to eat after 6 pm so you say at night your going 5 to 10 times at night so for a 24 hour period your going between 11-17 times what type of meds are you on what type of diet are you on

Hello, Borislav.

It will take a few months for your j pouch to get to a regular schedule and not go so frequently, especially at night. In my first few weeks I experienced frequency every 5 minutes, but then it stopped. I didn't do anything, it just stopped. I think the pouch matured and figured out how to work by itself. Going every 5 minutes just means your pouch hasn't finished, and there is still something inside that is irritating, that's all. Try not to worry. For some people their pouch behaves normally right from the start. For others, it can take many months. No one is exactly the same.

Ask your doctor or surgeon about Immodium to slow the frequency and how many pills you should take in one day. My surgeon told me I could take up to 8 over a 24 hour period, but each person is different, so ask your doctor at your next visit. Try Metamucil powder to add to a glass of water to thicken your stool so you can hold on longer. Eat foods that help thicken the stool, such as white rice, pasta with a bit of olive oil and cheese grated on top, mashed potatoes (peel the skin off because the skin is fiber, and fiber makes you go even more), bananas, sourdough bread with peanut butter. I would avoid butter for now in case it gives you problems because butter is greasy or fatty. No spicy foods. If eating vegetables or fruit, don't eat the skins. Eat clean, simple, whole foods, not processed foods. For now, eat like a baby: protein foods, soft foods, nothing greasy, nothing fried, limit foods that give you gas (broccoli, cabbage, beans, carbonated drinks). Give it time. Don't eat late at night.

Hello, Borislav.

The growling sounds you hear after eating is from food and air moving through your stomach and intestines. As soon as you eat, your intestines activate and move "old" food through to make room for new food. Ever notice how drinking morning coffee or eating breakfast makes you want to go to the bathroom? So air, food, gas make noises. I always hear noise after I've eaten, like whooshing sounds as my guts move and push food along. The itch you are experiencing at night probably comes from leakage because your muscles are more relaxed when you are asleep. You are very early days after your reversal, so be patient, eat and drink properly, and try not to worry. Intestines don't like worry or stress. They shut down, or they speed up!
