Hi, I am 15 wks pregnant and this is my husbands and mines 1st baby. I had a c-section in 2002 pre j-pouch with j-pouch surgery in 2003 (long story-short, was married before didn't work out, no living children). I have been very lucky with my pouch, I've not had any real issues to speak of since surgery, even though I have managed on my own since 2004, seeing a GI doctor for 1st time in 10 years last year. I have been pretty set on having a c-section to avoid unnecessary strain on my j-pouch, but after reading some of the recoveries some people have had I'm becoming a little nervous. Has anyone had a c-section and recovery wasn't so bad? Please share any and all birthing stories they will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any updates on your deliveries "LoveLife" and "Chayes"? I am currently 32 weeks and the OB has left the decision in my ball court essentially. I really want to do a vaginal delivery for several reasons, quicker recovery (hopefully), and I have not had great success with my previous surgical recoveries. I do hear all the time that a C-sect is pretty standard and low risk but I want to have the whole experience especially since this is my husbands first baby...any updates would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Yes, we'll,  tough choice.  I was advised to go for a c-section because my doctor though there were high risk of permanent damage to my rectum - due to the previous surgeries. I followed his advise but then another thing happened. They tore a hole in my small intestine because some old scartissue stuck to the peritoneum (?) and so they had to remove 3 centimeters.

So my recovery was long and very frustrating. You have to keep in mind though, that I have 8 previous surgeries behind me, so my stories are far from common. I also do not heal very well, but now, 2 months later, I am doing great and have no problems so far. And I should add .. I am alone with my son and managing just fine. The scar from the c-section  is the best looking scar I have - and I have a lot

Most important... I now have a beautiful son

I wish you the best of luck. Go with what you believe is the right thing for you and let us now how ito goes.

Best

Rikke & Storm

Congratulations on becoming a mama. I had a c section with my son born 10/2014. I would recommend that you keep your surgeon (who did the pouch for you) in the loop on things. I had a blockage after my c section and the ob I had was not equipped to deal so I ended up being the one to call my pouch surgeon who ended up taking over my care completely during my recovery in the hospital. I had more pain post op than I thought and needed to call in for a few extra days of pain Meds. I was on pain Meds about 3 weeks and recovery was slow but steady; much easier than any other abdominal surgery I experienced. There has been success stories in pouchers with vaginal and c section births. If you breastfeed, keep up on the water intake lots of love to you and that new baby!
