I was just diagnosed with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. I have chronic pouchitis and currently on Remicade. I just had a baby and my pregnancy did a number on me. My doctor recommended I do Pelvic Floor therapy to help strengthen my muscles. Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover it. Has anyone had success with the therapy?

I never did the therapy but I do the exercises on my own (I just read this stuff on certain internet sites and copy the movements...maybe not half as good but definitely twice as cheap!)

There are some exercises that you can do without a therapist, some really good, informative internet sites and videos explaining in detail the way to do them.

You might want to just get one consult with a specialist and a diagnosis of which muscles are involved (or all of them!) and the specific movements that would work best for you and then do them on your own.

I tend to do mine while waiting for a bus or train, sitting in the subway or linning up at the check out...that is how I always remember to do them.

My mom is doing the therapy right now; thankfully it is covered by her insurance. And yes, it does help -- or at least, it is helping her! Having said that, the exercises are really easy and not much different from the kegels I was taught to do originally. The website from Winter Wish looks really great and has pretty much everything my mom is doing right now! So maybe give that a try first?

Much luck,

Gin
