My son is going to start entocort tomorrow.  When he had UC he was on high doses of prednisone which did not help AT ALL and gave him all the horrible side effects.  His Dr assures that entocort is different and has much less risk of side effects so we are willing to try. He also said we don't have to wean off it but I read that many of you did wean.  Was the wean quick?  Prednisone wean was horribly long.  Is there anyone here for whom prednisone did not work but entocort did?

Weaning off steroids is mostly to give the suppressed adrenal gland time to gradually resume producing natural steroids as the body needs them (e.g. when stressed). It’s most important when the dose was high and/or the duration of therapy was long. Entocort tends to produce a lower absorbed dose, but some is still absorbed. If a short course of Entocort is planned then weaning might not be necessary. The ultimate authority is your son’s body.
